Vizio Announces Android Smartphone and Tablet

Vizio, a company best known for its LCD TV products, has announced the launch of an Android-based smartphone and tablet.
Known as the Vizio VIA Phone and Vizio VIA Tablet (which may or may not be their final names), the devices share a solid amount of features: A 1 GHz processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS, a MicroSD card slot, HDMI output with HD video playback, an IR blaster paired with a universal remote control app and a front-facing camera for video chats.
The VIA Phone comes with a 4-inch capacitive touch screen and a 5-megapixel camera. The tablet, on the other hand, has an 8-inch screen and three speakers that provide stereo sound in both portrait and landscape position.
Both devices are part of Vizio’s upcoming VIA Plus ecosystem, which should provide a unified experience across Vizio’s phone, tablet, HDTVs and Blu-ray players. Though they’re both based on Android, Vizio has not mentioned which version. We’ll know more later this week as Vizio plans to showcase the new devices at CES.
